Precision Neurological Correction FAQ

How does Precision Neurological Correction work?

Upper cervical chiropractic care helps the nervous system correct cumulative postural imbalances and structural misalignments that erode our function over time. Our spines change, compensate and develop problems just like we experience, with age, in our teeth, eyes and heart. Left unchecked, these changes may lead to pain, stiffness or other more serious problems.

The nervous system is a key part of your body. It is the communication system between your brain and all of your body's muscles, organs and tissues. To remain healthy, your nervous system must function well. For your nervous system to function optimally it must be as free of insult as possible. The spine is the most common site of this type of insult because nerves travel from the spinal cord through openings on either side of the spine to complete the communication loops between our brain and bodily tissues.

Each of us is born with the ability to heal and recover from illness. Our bruises heal, cuts mend and common colds are overcome. Your nervous system regulates via our intricate feedback loop network, our body's inborn healing ability.

Think of your brain as a central command post sending and receiving information through telephone wires (your nerves), which branch out to connect all areas of a city (your body). A short circuit in a wire cuts off communication just like misalignments in your spine can similarly confuse proper nervous system input and output. The resulting neurological insult may affect your ability to self regulate, prolonging injury or illness.

The customized care you receive in this office can help to improve your posture, muscle balance and mobility. It can also serve to restore better integrity to your nervous system function, thus reducing undesirable pain and inflammation patterns caused by dysfunction due to reduced nervous system integrity.

You only work on the skull and upper neck area, how do you help other spinal regions?

When the appropriate upper cervical region adjustment is made, the postural reflex system will change the tension (via muscles and their tendons) at the foundation of the spine (the pelvis and sacrum) allowing a rebalancing process to begin throughout the spine. This rebalancing is not limited to the structures of the spine, many patients report experiencing significant changes in both upper and lower extremities.

How does all this happen?

To understand this, we must first look to your body's hierarchy of function. Your body, on its own, can only move a bone, let alone maintain its position, by contracting or enforcing static tone via the tension on supporting muscles that attach to each individual bone. No muscle acts independently without a signal instruction from the nervous system. Thus, in order to create any lasting change in the positions of specific bones or joints, we must affect change in the corresponding support muscle tone. As stated, this can only occur by "rebooting" the nervous system to begin the appropriate sequence of change.

Do people seek you out to treat nonspine conditions?

I would never say I "treat" any condition, even a spinal one. Treating implies a process of doing things to your body in the attempt to reduce or eliminate a symptom. Precision Neurological Correction (PNC) seeks to correct neurological confusion and initiate healing by specific analysis and correction of an underlying cause. I have several case testimonials that can give you an idea of the breadth of problems patients have found help with through PNC.
